Job Description:

Primary PurposeA Category Management Advisor plans and manages all contract related activities and processes associated with the procurement of goods and services. This role reports to a Portfolio Manager, or in rare instances, to a Category Manager, and is responsible for advising multiple Category Managers within the portfolio. This role collaborates with Business Unit managers and support staff, as well as cross-functional teams within Supply Management and throughout the organization. The Category Management Advisor manages medium to high-value/high-risk contracts, evaluates supplier proposals, leads negotiations and the development of contract award recommendations, and establishes and maintains favorable supplier relationships.Duties and ResponsibilitiesOversees entire purchasing process for medium to high complexity materials and/or services assigned. Integrates client requirements into the contracting and sourcing processes. Leads proposal evaluations. Recommends contract awards. Evaluates supplier qualifications. Identifies alternative suppliers. Leads negotiations and the development of contract award recommendations. Works closely with internal support organizations including Law Department, Accounts Payable, and Risk Management. Develops and manages supplier alliance opportunities. Resolves conflict between suppliers and company.Provides recommendation on the development and implementation of purchasing strategies for materials and/or services assigned that meet company requirements. Analyzes internal spend data and market intelligence to strategically source needed services and materials. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with teams and suppliers to reduce overall costs. Identifies opportunities for greater use of industry specifications. Identifies alternate service applications. Secures reliable, cost effective sources for materials and/or services.Leads special projects to identify and implement cost savings programs. Works on cross-functional teams to develop strategies to add value through Supply Management lead projects.Works with multiple Category Managers within the Portfolio, and maximizes value-add by maintaining a Portfolio-level view. Participates on category management cross-functional teams, bringing knowledge of customer needs, supplier capabilities or performance, and performance improvement ideas.Meets with internal clients on a regular basis to understand client needs and to strengthen client relationships.Trains clients in formal training settings and informally through ongoing contact in proper contract management and administration policies and procedures. Ensures client compliance with appropriate procurement policies and procedures, standards for ethical behavior, and accounting policies.Maintains emphasis on reliable and efficient suppliers, lowest overall cost, optimum quality and availability, and significant contribution to the Supplier Diversity (WMDVBE) goals.Maintains records to demonstrate that proper protocol was followed in the sourcing and contracting processes and in the implementation of the supplier relationship.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications and Skills:A bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or other related field or equivalent experience.3+ years of directly relevant experience, preferably in an Associate Category Management Advisor role, or through other materials and/or services purchasing experience.Mastery of contracting and supply management principles.Demonstrated ability to assist with the development of a Scope of Work then subsequently develop and negotiate contract terms including compensation that support the execution of the detailed scope.Persuasive communication skills (verbal and written).Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills.Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.Preferred Qualifications and Skills:A master's degree in Business Administration or other advanced academic training.Professional Certification, such as CPM or CPSM.Working knowledge of contract management and/or accounting systems.A demonstrated ability to attain skill development in addition to work duties.Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Protected Veterans/Disabled
